P4

My first job was to create a level for our video game. It took 2 hours as we were still working out the best way of designing the levels but I made the first and easiest level.

Next, I had to make the character for our game. We all thought that a skull was the best choice so I spent 3 lessons making sure that it was looking nice and real. I spent so long on it because I was using diagrams next to it to sculpt it as a normal skull looks like. Side by side, I think I did a good job.

Next up, Josh was ill. This meant I filled his role of helping Ryan code. Josh is our sound designer but he was doing all his work from home so he was a secondary coder of sorts. I spent two lessons struggling but not failing to make progress in the coding sections of our game in Unity. We found a way to animate our coin (point system) but never found a good and easy way of totalling the score.

Once Josh was back in class, I started creating our protagonist character, the object that the player will control as they play the game. This spent a long time and, like the way I created the skull, used side by side diagrams to accurately create the model of a human being. After 4.5 hours, we thought that we wanted a more simple look. This time I created a cube with arms pointing forwards with pixel art as its’ facial expressions.

After importing the level into Unity, we found that the collisions weren't working and we deduced that it was because it was set as one single object with countless walls instead of many simple objects with jus 6 sides. I spent a long time recreating the level I made and had 75 different cubes and cuboids making up the level in the end.

I also made the title card and game over screens. I made several different colour variatons of them too.
